Bitch Prefect make lo-fi downer pop that warms the heart. Stalwarts of the local ‘scene’ Pat Telfer and Liam Kenny may have also blown your mind in The Weevils, Immortal Warlord, Dud Pills or one of the hundred other bands they’re in. Together with the inimitable presence of Scott O’Hara (Hit the Jackpot, True Radical Miracle, Lindsey Low Hand, Megafauna) on vocals and geetar, the trio create perfect pop that’s equal parts nostalgia inspired "good times" and endearing self-deprecation (bad life decisions, every time) that sounds somewhere between The Clean, Nirvana (not heaps though) and Beat Happening.
As well as an extensive back catalogue of home-recorded gold, Pat has also produced videos for many of the tracks. My personal favourite is Freezer, which I thought was pretty twisted until Liam explained it’s about a water bottle. "She’s ice cold / in the summer / cuz I keep her / in the freezer". Admittedly, I liked it slightly more when I thought they were sickos, but it’s a great song none the less. The videos are a bit of a stoner rock dear diary; snippets of daily life (food preparation / attempting to clean filthy carpet before house inspection / hanging out in stormwater drains / being attacked by a puppy whilst wearing a "Cats – the Musical" tshirt) mixed with lip syncing, head nodding, hand flailing, wayfarer wearing, eau d’bedroom dancing moments of pure, unadulterated joy.
