Asking Fabulous Diamonds what music makes them tick is kinda like asking David Lynch what he dreamt last night, or Crispin Glover what he had for breakfast. Translation: you have no idea what to expect.

Jarrod is 50% of the absolutely fabulous duo, and he’s given us an eclectic mix of truly awesome, generally unheard-of music. Not surprising, as FD are modern day iconoclasts, producing daring artifacts in both their debut, 7 Songs, and its recently released follow-up, II.

What makes a great mixtape?

All my favorite mixtapes are ones that truly reflect the people making them, listening to them evokes their presence etc. The person’s personality imprinted on the song choices and the way the songs themselves interact together. The magic in a great mixtape, or mix in general, is the sequencing – not necessarily the song selections.

What’s your favorite song on the mix, and why?

If 7 Songs and II were movies, what movie would each be?

An unfunny, overlong rom-com and its unnecessary sequel.

Your dream live show, any three bands or artists, alive, living, or dead, in any setting?

Oh my choices are pretty typical; The Velvet Underground, preference onthe Cale era, happy with the Yule era but not the reformed version (though, despite how gross reformations in general are, it did have its moments of genius) Les Rallizes Denudes and maybe the Theatre of Eternal Music? I don’t know. I’m happy seeing anything good. That said, not all those bands on the same bill in the one night – I’d probably feel nauseous.

What can Fabulous Diamonds fans expect from your live show?

About 50 minutes that veers from the enjoyable to the tedious. Lots of buzz from my keyboard. Not much banter.
