It's been a while between Cinzano shandies for the Ooga Boogas. There's a reason for this. Life. But after a couple of seasons of Breaking Bad and an introductory lesson on Power Point the quartet - featuring Mikey from Total Control and members of the Onyas and the Sailors - are back with a self-titled album that blows the My Family decals off the Kluger and brings the boogie woogie back where it belongs – front and centre.
The follow up to 2008's Romance and Adventure mixes a touch of garage punk with a hefty dose of synth-heavy new wave and valuable life lessons.
Staring into the album artwork by drummer Per Bystrom’s aunt Barbro Lindblom is the perfect way to get lost/transfixed during album highlight, the eight-minute funk dream/mantra ‘Sex in the Chillzone’. A balmy 2am Cafe Del Mar sea breeze on a patio overlooking a city beach.
'It's a Sign' has a Velvets, 'Live at the Gymnasium' vibe, while 'The Studio of My Mind' with its krauty synth is basically a blueprint on how to be a creative genius.
