Brigid Noone + Ray Harris ,’We Are Ladies’
published on 20th October, 2011

Have you all seen Ray Harris’ exhibition at the Australian Experimental Art Foundation yet? It runs til October 29. Should I spoil it? I won’t spoil it. Okay I’ll spoil it. There’s a giant projection of her rolling around in bread dough, and another one of her hugging an ice sculpture of her mum. Also there’s a bunch of cubicles, one of which is done up like a vagina. Hmm. I make it sound really stupid, but it was actually the best thing I’ve seen all year.

Anyway, so Ray and Brigid Noone – both veterans of FELTspace on Compton St – are good chums, and are putting on a show at Artroom5 down at Henley Beach. Brigid did her Masters on “vulnerability”, which I’m sure she’s sick of talking about. She does creepy cute pictures of lonely children and people kissing and whatnot. Her and Ray are very different artists, although the prospect of this show is a reminder of how satisfying it can be to see artists using very different media to chart similar territory.
