For those of us who do not own cars, and are loath to brave the Belair line (top tip: Blackwood Station, ten minutes south down Main Rd) on a Sunday whilst hungover, Seedling Art Space is quite an effort. A good dose of sunshine, and a walk in Blackwood Forest ought to fix up those red wine blues though. And this particular Sunday there is an opening and a performance – all that for the price of a train ticket!
Anna Hughes – recent ACSA graduate – has a reputation for making highly polished sculptural work with a sharp sensitivity to the materials she employs. The most recent work of hers I am familiar with, 49 Mandala Drawings, was a delicate video of humble texta drawings on a breakfast plate.
An added bonus is in store if you come along to the opening. There also happens to be a ‘sound walk’ curated by Kahl Hopper too. Now, just relax ok, it’s not pretentious, it’s music in the park on a Sunday afternoon. The gentle pluck of Hannah Ling’s harp, the tinkle of Domenico de Clario at the piano. And, sure it’s a little experimental and Domenico might be blindfolded while playing – but you’re still allowed to (and quite likely to) enjoy it.
