Schaffas 2
published on 11th August, 2010

In their most recent edition, Adelaide student magazine On Dit congratulated FiveThousand on its ability to "art-fag it up around the wine-and-cheese-platter traps". Touché. If you know anything about the wine-and-cheese-platter traps you would have checked out Schaffas by now. The opening had Schaffa-shaped cheeses and heaps of art fags and heaps of yuppies.

Schaffas? Yuppies?

Schaffas are little wooden creatures that look like this. The Screamdance guys – designers of the Heaps Good t-shirts and more – sent a Schaffa to over eighty different artists who each customised them.

Yuppies are big sophisticated creatures with more money than art-fags and less pretentious taste. A lack of pretension is probably what made this show so appealing. The concept is simple and cute – a template for a variety of artists working in different mediums and with different styles to customise. Even better, the results were auctioned off with the proceeds going to Close the Gap. Don’t worry dear art-fag, it’s not too late. The show is open until the 21st of August and there’s a book with all the Schaffas in it too.
