Maybe it’s just because I’ve reached a certain time in my life, but there seem to be an awful lot of artist-run initiatives in Adelaide right now. You’ve got your Format Festivals, your FELT Spaces, your Merge Magazines… so much youthful initiative, so many bright young impresarios applying for liquor licenses. It’s all very cockle-warming, don’t you think?
Two Percent is what happens when a plucky cadre of art school kids pool their resources to put on regular exhibitions in a variety of spaces around town. They’re the kind of shows that allow emerging artists to show off real talent, as well as sell their work outside the gallery system. Their last big show, in collaboration with the Format Collective, was a sprawling multi-media behemoth that went under the apt moniker of ‘Big’. Their next show is a kind of sequel – an exhibition of small, reasonably-priced works ideal for the home. It’ll be held at the old offices of the latterly-publisher-less, soon-to-be-renamed-and-independent Merge Magazine (more on that later, we promise).
The space is becoming a kind of multi-purpose arts hub under the name of Magazine. If you’re in need of some cockle-warmth be sure to ask them about it at the show.
