‘Songs To Dance To / Songs To Die To’
published on 23rd February, 2010

Alanna Lorenzon (the Melbourne-based archivist and indexer of strange and fantastical imagery) asked visual artists to conceptualise and create a sound work for installation or performance. Rather than a curatorial directive or set of rules for the exhibition, the artists interpreted and worked from the ponderous title (both thrilling and dark) delving into new creative territories.

The artists responded well, crafting, writing and building an eclectic and inventive mix of tone and form. The resultant exhibition of works ‘Songs to Dance to / Songs to Die to’ will create a contemplative and experimental (bring tissues) sound scape among the ruinous caverns of the FORMAT basement. Expect wind-up toys, performance pieces, brainwashing visuals and strange sound inventions waiting for your eyes and ears.

Bring a friend (or two) and ponder death while dancing. Keep happy; stay cool.
