When I first met Julie White she was just about to graduate her degree in Fashion Design and it was already clear that her clothing was all about art. The centerpiece of Julie’s graduating range was a black bodysuit that transformed its model into a flame of elegance and dark powers.
Speaking to her recently, she said its been a challenging year since completing study. She’s learnt a great deal about maintaining the integrity of her work, whilst producing a label that the market isn’t afraid to wear.
Her latest release ‘The Dendrite Tights’ featured prominently in the recent BMW fashion festival. Available in parallel styles of black and white, the tights feature the graphic print of White’s illustrations, inspired by the forms of human nerve cells. They’re unlike anything else but completely wearable.
Much like other labels that pursue artistic goals, White’s future work will centre around couture pieces that act as the inspiration for her ready to wear ranges. "Pursuing a vision and making a living are difficult things to merge" says White, "but I wouldn’t make clothes for any other reason".
