Mushroom Boutique
published on 25th August, 2011

Mushrooms are not the most girly of plants. (Fungi, to be more accurate). They grow in damp, dark places. They sometimes have dirt in their frilly bits. If you’re brave enough pull them up out of the ground, as opposed to visiting the mushroom stall in the markets, there is a chance they might be poisonous. Kinda gross. A little bit ugly. Generally tasty but also a tad suspect at the same time. (I had some enoki mushrooms on a pizza once. They were definitely erring on the side of ‘suspect’).

Mushroom Boutique, on the other hand, is perfect for when you’re feeling all ladylike. When flowy florals and pretty pastels are in order for tea parties, engagement parties and just-because parties. Glittering light fittings, fresh flowers and a beautiful wallpaper pattern have girls swooning and lads running for the slightly more masculine safety of Queen Street Café (or the playground across the road). But that’s just fine – we ladies need all the ‘alone time’ we can get to admire the plastic fantastic Melissa shoes, loose and layered Mesop dresses and Nancy Bird accessories. Sorry boys.
