Somethin Somethin
published on 29th September, 2011

I will admit, I did groan a bit on my bike ride across the park from the city to Glen Osmond Road. I groaned about those shops that pretend they are vintage-inspired but really have a terrible idea of what vintage really means, I groaned about those girls at Parklife, I groaned about the weather. Yeah, so more than a bit. But when I arrived at my destination, I was in for a nice surprise and now I feel sheepish.

Somethin Somethin is the new collaborative retail space of local labels Penny Anne/More of You, and inventive outfit hiring business Raid My Closet. A proper newbie having opened last Monday just in time for the new Penny Anne range to break free, Somethin Somethin also stocks local jewellery labels, as well as few old favourites such as Le Specs and None the Richer.

Raid My Closet is a range of hand selected pieces all ready for you to look through. The deal is, you can pick a piece and instead of purchasing, hire it out, on the spot or in advance. I assume this is for folk like me who have a full wardrobe but nothing to wear. Every weekend. Genius. The cream of the crop however is the new Penny Anne range, and the incredible custom leotard More Of You range by local designer Dannielle Symes. Soft pastels crept into my eyes and it was hard to walk out without a purchase. I felt comforted knowing that some local designers still knew the real meaning of vintage.
