Adelaide ain’t New York, but that doesn’t mean it can’t get in on some rooftop gardening action, right? The Majestic Roof Garden Hotel, with its iconic wave roof a feature of the East End skyline, has been tending its green upper level for a while now. Sure, the garden is less ‘tropical oasis’ or ‘buzzing organic farm‘ and more ‘potplants, a water feature and some outdoor furniture’, but that doesn’t mean that the rooftop is not an excellent place for a cider at sunset, or a glass of red (or three) later on as you watch the city twinkle below. That’s IF you decide to leave your room, of course.
At first glance, the rooms are functional. I stayed in an ‘executive suite’. Bed, TV, bath: check. But then there are the finer elements, such as the sliding doors above the bath so you can watch TV or look out the window from the comfort of the bubbles. Wood panelling. Full-length mirrors lining the entryway. Dark marble tiles, Bodum coffee plungers, and stylish lampshades and succulents in the hallways. They’ve taken the little things, the ‘functional’ details, and elevated them to ‘great’. And if you’re visiting with friends, the Majestic has apartment suites that can sleep up to four. Kitchen included!
Looking over the rooftops of Rundle Street and out to the hills, it’s hard not to become a little enamoured with the laid back, no-fuss nature of this city. The Majestic Roof Garden Hotel is THE place for it.
