One day I opened my front door to face a nervous looking (just) post-teen preaching about Medecins Sans Frontieres (Donate Today!). I was somewhat in a hurry to get back to whatever the hell I was doing (probably staring at a wall), so said ‘ok, how much do you want? Five, ten? I’ll give it to you right now’. He refused and began a (barely) rehearsed speech on the ‘lasting situations’ they have created, which I soon realised was beggar speech for ‘give me your bank details and I’ll take money out for the rest of your life’. After a few minutes of mutual refusals and $5 note face-waving, he left.
Anyhoo, if you want to see the acted version of (something like) this, go and see Kirsten Law’s ‘Prolifia’ at the Fringe. I should mention that it also features a bum-bagged academic lecturing on ‘positive rap’, an interview with Brian Austin Green (of course it’s not really him but he’s so D-list at the moment I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned up) and sound design by Rob Mayson
(of the late Grey Daturas/Breathing Shrine).
