Mon May 14, 5pm. FELTspace is, as of just a few hours ago, asking YOU if you would like to be involved in this thing. It’s called The Writing Project and they’ve just opened up for applications. The gist of the project is that it’s an opportunity for emerging artists, writers, designers and curators to “collaborate across Australia, experiment across art forms, to produce, publish and launch critical arts writing, and to receive project funding”. You will work in teams and have an exhibition launch at FELTspace. But don’t waste time reading this here This Just In, more info is right here at this link.
Monday May 14, 1.13pm. The British Council wants to send you to the UK armed with $10K to work with people who’re clever, just like you. Friday 20 April, 10am. The only thing better than going to a garage sale is conducting a garage sale. Because you make money, not slough it off on records you’ll never listen to. Knowing this, don’t you think you should register for the national Garage Sale Trail? One hot day in May (Saturday 5 May to be exact) when thousands (literally, thousands) of makers, creators and people who just plain want to offload some shit unite in a celebration of community, sustainability and micro-enteprise. Well, micro-enterpriser, you only have (as of this moment) 14 days left to register your sale. We like the whole thing so much we are a media partner so we’ll probably be there taking photos of you and your old washing machine, you guys look great BTW.

Wednesday 28 March, 4.38pm. A megathrust earthquake hit Japan a little over a year ago. I knew that! Well of course you did. It’s all we talked about at the time. Now we don’t talk about it so much, but that doesn’t mean the Japanese people are out of the thick of it. Things are still being cleared, rebuilt and relocated. Remember Japan is a set of well-designed t-shirts, posters and soon tote bags that want us to remember March 2011. All proceeds go to CRASH Japan and all items (where possible) are made via locally sourced workmanship and environmentally friendly materials. Everything is available online from here.

Monday 12 March, 1.30pm. What’s a gallery without white walls, right? Fontanelle, a soon-to-open gallery in Bowden, has gotten all geometric and colourful on the exterior but now needs to finish off the inside with a lick of white paint or three. If you can roll like a pro and have time to spare from tomorrow through to Sunday, pop over here to find out when your services are required.
Monday 12 March, 12.02pm. It doesn’t seem very long since the first issue was attacked by man fingers in our office but Smith Journal volume 02 is out today. We have just read it and can recommend the interview with half-crazypants half-genius Japanese inventor Dr Nakamatsu, the short essays by Dave Eggers and Christos Tsiolkas, the profile on Tokuhiko Kise (Tok) of TRUCK furniture, the spreads on cold war spy gadgets, the history of pinball machines, Henry Rollins’s bookshelf and the lovely/shitty car that Tait just bought. Smith are also doing a reader survey and the prize draw for respondents includes a carton of Stone & Wood beer delivered to your door once a month for 10 months, or one of five Herschel backpacks. Go here to enter. We cannot compete with that but we do have a copy of volume 02 to give away. To enter, email win@thethousands.com.au with the subject ‘I invented the floppy disk’.

Wednesday February 22, 10.23am. Check out this great tree Danny from The Thousands planted in front on the Taj Mahal in India. Danny has this master plan to travel the world planting trees and hey, Danny, please don’t leave us when you hear that The Vodafone Foundation’s just launched the World of Difference program and are encouraging five people to quit their jobs and work for a charity. In return they’ll pay a salary of up to $60k plus expenses! Can somebody find a not-for-profit that picks coconuts from beaches on secluded islands for us?

Wednesday February 15, 2.30pm. Format exudes a semblance of professionalism with its latest call for exhibitions in the gallery space, proving it’s not all about trashy DJs, LOLs and cheap champagne on Peel Street. If you think you’ve got what it takes to show some artwork upstairs, then head here to read more about what they’re looking for and submit your application to contact@format.net.au by March 16.
Wednesday February 15, 12.45pm.
