Can’t decide whether to cook or go out? Now you can do both. That’s definitely going to be the tagline on Hong Depot’s advertising material.
This Korean BBQ restaurant, which replaces the old service station on Melbourne St in South Brisbane, adopts the latest D.I.Y. restaurant craze that mums love to complain about. “Danny, can you believe they charge you $50 for a steak AND you have to cook it yourself?”
The point of it all is that you don’t have a charcoal barbeque at home. You can’t marinate a Wagyu steak like this. Those Woolies vegies you buy aren’t as tasty as these and well you’d never put taro on your home grill.
For many the food won’t be the main drawcard here unless you come for lunch when Hong does more of a traditional Korean menu. It’s more the fun of open cooking which also makes Hong a particularly choice pick for a date. If you’re trying to impress someone don’t complain about your burnt vegies though. I tried that joke and the waitress had obviously heard it a hundred times before.
