We heard through our trusty grapevine that a brand spanking new bar had opened in Ashgrove last weekend, Ashgrove of all places. A cane curtained, hole in the wall bar nestled between a Chinese takeaway and a fast photo shop – we probably wouldn’t have been intrigued enough make the trip, but then we heard who’s baby it was – Jamie from The Troubadour – that’s whose! Brisbane’s favourite feels-like-your-living-room-circa-1976 venue now has a sibling, Junk Bar.
Born out of desire for a place to drink and listen to good music that doesn’t require a trip the charming, kebab spew capital – the Valley, Jamie set out to make the kind of place he and his friends want to drink at, seemingly a millions miles away from the roar of the big smoke at Junk Bar you’ll feel like you’ve stepped in a dark gin joint from the prohibition. Find a leather couch that suits you best, sit back and Jamie (or his partner Mia) will come take your order. We thoroughly recommend ‘The Junk Bar Cherry’ a loving shaken cocktail of muddled cherry, Chambord, vanilla Galliano and cream. Drop in for a quick nightcap or stay and listen to old records all night whilst you sip on a martini or neat whisky Donald Draper style.
