The next time you think about saying, “Brisbane needs more culture”, first ask yourself where Eritrea is? Stuck for the answer? Well, then it’s you that needs some culture, my friend, and you can get some by visiting Mu’ooz Restaurant.
For the unacquainted, Eritrea is a West Africa country bordering Ethiopia and Sudan, and to get your cultural fix you’re going to have to acquaint yourself with burgeoning Moorooka, aka ‘Little Africa’. As you probably guessed, Eritrea is an arid land with spice infused vegetarian dishes de rigueur. Saying that, the meat dishes also smelt arousing.
Big ups goes to the two dishes sampled – Kantisha, a spicy mushroom, tomato and garlic stew, and Dubo, a creamy pumpkin curry that tasted a bit like mutant peanut butter. With good food comes good news: the sophistication of being able to eat with your hands means that Mu’ooz’s delights can be enjoyed until day’s end… Eeewww. Post eating hand washing highly recommended.
