Hobart’s a creative buzz at the moment and we aint just talking about the self proclaimed “subversive Disneyland for adults” called MONA. There’s so much to do. So much to see. So much to eat. Yeah, we know you probably don’t believe us, so The Thousands have started a Hobart guide to prove it to y’all! Bam!
Looks great huh? But now you’re pining for a trip across the able Tasman and Tiger’s cheap fares don’t look like taking flight again anytime soon. You can at least start plotting your escape to the sounds of Community 2, the second Hit Machine of Hobartian music compiled by Julian Teakle from The Thousands approved band The Native Cats.
Hmmm, where to start with describing the music on here? The tracks from Drunk Elk, Treehouse, Naked, Gutter Parties and The Lucky Dips will immediately standout, but probably the main thing to say within the word limit is that the music here is devoid of any seasonal influences. Not a single song on the compilation shouts “Pitchfork/Mess and Noise 2011” which rules, cos for your measly $15 bucks you get a load of classic would-be hits that you’ll still enjoy when CDs come back into vogue.
Wankless in so many ways are these latest sounds from Hobart that it sort of reminds me of Brisbane. Which means these tracks sound nothing like Melbourne, look nothing like Sydney and, well, maybe feel a bit like Adelaide. People in Adelaide still listen to CDs, right? Soz never been to Perth.
