I’ll be honest with you OK. I just need Catherine and Kate’s art in my life, that’s all I need. You need it as much as I do. The pair spent the first half of this year traipsing the barren wilderness of Iceland’s small towns under conditions that some would refer to as cabin fever. Together, the pair (who have worked under the name Fiona Mail, Catherine Sagin, and regrettably not Kate Moss) undertook a series of projects, three of which will be showing at their latest exhibition, Catherine Or Kate.
Collaboration is a sticky thing, but Catherine and Kate manage to sustain their competitive collaboration with no qualms. They’ve learnt to fence, competed in public, and lost in diplomatic fashions. They’ve sent footballer Warwick Capper to represent them at openings, and almost drowned in canoes together. More recently, they undertook a tour of Iceland’s petrol stations, asking attendants which one of them was ‘hotter’. The best thing about their work? Their ability to remain poker faced while undertaking these absurd tasks. Let’s be honest OK – conceptual art is often at it’s best when it’s also hilarious. Join them on the opening night for a one off performance.
