Nine Wives
published on 12th April, 2011

Over a brew one night, Megan Cope and Mariam Arcilla, curators of Nine Wives brought up the fact that Nine Lives was made of Nine males, and made a joke about there being Nine Wives, a bunch of nine creative females who put all their energy into what they do best. Don’t get me wrong – this show isn’t all about the Big F word or Big Love for that matter, but it’s no submissive observation of domesticity either.

Dividing the space of Nine Lives into nine separate rooms, the girls in the show have created spaces which echo the ritual in their everyday lives, whether that be… I don’t know, quilting a giant white flying mess of hexagons in reference to communal practices and/or lack thereof like Dhana Merritt has, or animalism on the home front – a subject which Zoe Porter has conquered. The other seven ladies include Rebecca Ross, Simone Eisler, Dord Burrough, Lucinda Wolber, Sue-Ching Lascelles, Kristy Morgan and Carolyn V Watson. Get feisty in the ladies house on an unconventional Wenesday night.
