Scott G Toepfer, ‘Furthest Horizons’
published on 21st September, 2011

If anyone knows about living as art, it would be Scott G Toepfer. Camera always at the ready, his photographs reflect the everyday in the most un-mundane of senses. The guy rides a motorbike for chrissake. The prolific LA based photographer has made short films, published books about his rogue road trips with the help of Kickstart and taken a myriad of photos across the flattest of American lowlands, the most desolate of beaches and liveliest times had by musicians. His exhibition, Furthest Horizons exemplifies this.

The best thing about Toepfer’s work? His instinctual interaction with his subjects. Plus, he focuses on the craft of living and making instead of technology – no digital emasculation here. This is the first exhibition (we hope of many) that will feature at Just Us Gallery’s new Brisbane location. The set up is perfect for the showing of this troubadours work, as Just Us have converted a dingy loading dock in West End to a functioning gallery space – stuff the boundaries, right? Get off the internet and feel that wind in your hair on your way to the furthest horizon (and Scott’s exhibition). Your life will be better for it.
