Standard Service
published on 8th December, 2010

What kind of Standard Service are we talking about here? The kind that you get at the dry cleaners? The kind you get from those sweaty scammers who come to your door trying to flog an alternative electricity plan? Or the standard service one might find at a roadside diner? This is a completely different kind of standard service – the kind you find on the tables of your friends houses, the potlucks and the ‘f-ck you Dan Brown, let a meal just be a meal, this haloumi is delicious’ settings where the artists bring ideas to the table.

The final exhibition of the year (and the last in this Nine Lives space) features the works of local and interstate favourites, an excuse to bring out the record player, spin a few tunes and have a somewhat distorted dinner. Participating artists include Mariam Arcilla, Mark Alsweiler, Joel Birch, Ben Havenaar (whose favourite pastime of late has been capturing wind in jars), Steph Hughes and a heap more. Bring some vinyl and aperitifs for a different kind of dinner, and say goodbye to the jasmine growing around the grills.
