There are two things going on at Limes Hotel: big stuff and little stuff. The big stuff is the design heavy rooftop bar, cinema and the lime pattern cut out thing on the facade. The small stuff is the quiet, textured and thoughtful things. This is where it hits gold. The staff are fantastic. You don’t open the door at Limes Hotel, they open it for you. They remember who you are, help with directions, and aside from being good looking, they keep their foyer stocked with a healthy selection of the kind of reading material you’d expect at a design hotel. Pass the offensive chair made of jeans to the lift and you’re in your room.
Okay, your room. It’s so clean! But not too clean, you know? Fabric textures are varied and fittings give it depth. You want to touch things. You have a balcony but it looks on to City of Brisbane council offices so maybe close the door and your curtains too while you’re at it. There is a coffee machine and organic teas on your kitchen bench, a hand written note and a brownie. L’Occitane is in your bathroom so lather up like a god damn dragon before putting on your bathrobe. Yup, a bathrobe softer than Tyler Brule awaits you. Put your feet up, use the free wireless and keep that bathrobe on.
