Boredoms Boadrum111

Japan’s most perverse polymorphs, Boredoms (aka. Voredoms, V∞redoms and countless other permutations) have been one of the great and enduring mysteries of modern life. Sometime early last decade they ceased being your standard rock band and became something much greater, giving a series of annual concerts known as Boadrum. Starting in Brooklyn on 07.07.07 with 77 drummers and continuing most years since, Boadrum is unlike your average concert going experience and closer to a festival atmosphere. Boredoms’ venerable leader, Yamantaka Eye conducts from the middle of a vast circle of percussionists, directing and channeling the sound, while adding his own noises and sound effects to create true Voredoms tone.

At previous Boadrums, this setup has usually consisted of Eye perched in the middle, commanding layers of clanging cymbals and extremely complicated polyrhythms that are then let loose to waft through the air. You can easily find footage on youtube, but there is no way to capture the intensity of that much sound and percussion short of being there. So far these annual (ish) sonic outings have been confined to the northern hemisphere. Now, amazingly, it is our turn. On 11.11.11 at 11.11am (10.11 QLD time), Boredoms + 11 drummers + 100 cymbal players will not only take over the Island Quarry (that’s right, a quarry!), they will take over the Universe for 111 minutes. Entry is $11 – worth every cent in terms of the astral cleansing you will receive.
