The Standard

The Standard doesn't do gourmet – you won't hear a whisper of Waygu, heirloom greens or designer doughs.

Part owners Christian (from Tassie) and Sam (from California) met while working at MONA's The Source, and it was there that the concept behind The Standard was born — apparently after serving fine food all evening all you want to do is wrap your chops around a big, fat, juicy burger. They joined forces with Will of Pilgrim and soon after gave birth to this Tasmanian/American bastard smack-bang in the heart of Hobart.

The menu is super basic, the meat is ground on-site and the buns are baked fresh. The standout burger is the Double Standard, which has the perfect ratio of meat, bun, greens and cheese, but that being said you are certainly not missing out with the veggie burger. We also sampled the chicken burger – so good it'd give the Colonel himself a wet one. And when all that blows over, wash away the guilt with an American soda or try one of their root-beer floats (they're not on the menu but they'll make it for you anyway).

Important Facts: You can also bring your own booze and it's open until 10pm.
