Bruny Island Cheese Co store

Bruny Island Cheese Co has a three-pronged approach. Firstly it draws you in with its fancy window display made up of neatly packed artisan products. Then it charms you with friendly and informative conversation. And thirdly it gets you drunk on tastings.

Wedged under a set of stairs in the Salamanca Arts Centre, Bruny Island Cheese Co has been a thing for a while, albeit under a different name (formerly A Common Ground). It was set up by food writer turned farmer, Matthew Evans, and the man behind Bruny Island Cheese Company, Nick Haddow, back in 2012. Since then, they've worked hard to connect people with the best produce the State has to offer.

And the hard work's paid off. Top shelf olive oils, cheese, honeys, cured and smoked meats, mustards, preserves, pickled fish and vegetables, wines and single malt whiskeys fill this little shop front to the brim. All of it hand selected by Matt and Nick and championed by store manager Tori. A visit here is as much an education as it is an act of commerce. And it's a very pleasant one at that.
