The ‘Rivo’ is an empty, dank and (kinda) creepy tunnel that stretches for about a kilometre or so. Inside, there’s shitloads of graffiti that’s been accumulating for 20-30 years. There's also old building foundations and a smell like a pond full of used men’s briefs.
People have been going underground here for many years. My older sister informed me that way back in the day, thieves on the run would stash their goods in the Rivulet and hide there until they knew that it was safe to surface. The police wouldn’t dare venture down.
Inside, any sound that you hear echos a lot. It is probably just a manhole being run over by a car up above, but it sounds like an inner city demon throwing skulls of high school students against the bones of bodies snatched from nursing homes.
The only real danger of venturing down here (if you’re not there for a paint) is flash flooding. If it is going to rain, you probs shouldn’t go down. I got blocked off from one exit because of the rain once. The other exit was being blocked by a druggie who informed us that he was an undercover policeman and that graffiti was illegal. His friend didn’t find this too funny and berated him by saying "man, hurry it up, I just wanna get high".
On a lighter note, the place makes for a fun afternoon and it helps you to appreciate the physical body of the city a bit more.
