It pains us to admit it but The Thousands Select Hobart City Guide is winding down *wipes away tears*. But, BUT, that does not mean that Hobart is slowing down. No siree.

A lot of people (mainly visitors, locals have their shit sorted) have been emailing to find out what’s happening on the weekend, where to go etc and to these people we’d like to say this: check out The Grand Poobah and The Brisbane for gigs and late night drinks. Have a wine in the Preachers beer garden in the afternoon. (We’re still in the process of writing this up, but it’s happening, promise.) Check the art line up at Inflight. Go for a wander around Salamanca. Get out to Bruny island and into the MONA Library if you possibly can. Listen closely to the captain’s tour on the ferry out to MONA, there’s some real gold there. Read Ravi and Kieran’s blog for news and general riff raff, and check Alex’s site for music stuff. Drink coffee at as many places as you can; highly recommended are Pilgrim, Pigeon Hole, Tricycle, Ethos (esp for breakfast) and Jam Jar. Download our app if you have an iPhone and remember, this guide is just the start of it. For a small place Hobart packs in a crapload of very good things.

Friday 27 January, 9am. A short but sweet heads up: MONA is holding a market (called MoMa) on its rooftop every single Saturday from now until April 14. It’s very serious about its local produce; a heap of growers and craftspeople have stalls and they run foodie workshops at 2.30 and 4.30pm. We know that the market’s good because the team at Island Menu went along and loved it (and the team at Island Menu have awesome taste). The below MoMa pic is from their very tasty site.

Monday 16 January, 4.26pm. Mental news! There’s a serious superband kind of thing happening this Friday at MOFO. The Dresden Dolls, Mick Harvey (former Bad Seeds, current PJ Harvey guitarist), John Parish (PJ’s producer) and Brian Ritchie (founding Violent Femmes’ bassist, MONA FOMA curator) will play Femmes’ songs at PW1. It starts at 10pm and is included in the festival pass. Nice!

Tuesday 10 January, 9am. Good morning. There are two important things that we would like to tell you today.
1. MONA FOMA has a free program iPhone app and Android app (also free). If you are going to the festival and you have an iPhone, or opposable thumbs, you should get one of these.
2. The Thousands have a free Hobart City Guide iPhone app! This also includes guides to other cities, such as Melbourne, and Perth. Anyways if you have an iPhone you know what to do. Thank you for reading.
