Friday 27 January, 9am. A short but sweet heads up: MONA is holding a market (called MoMa) on its rooftop every single Saturday from now until April 14. It’s very serious about its local produce; a heap of growers and craftspeople have stalls and they run foodie workshops at 2.30 and 4.30pm. We know that the market’s good because the team at Island Menu went along and loved it (and the team at Island Menu have awesome taste). The below MoMa pic is from their very tasty site.

Monday 16 January, 4.26pm. Mental news! There’s a serious superband kind of thing happening this Friday at MOFO. The Dresden Dolls, Mick Harvey (former Bad Seeds, current PJ Harvey guitarist), John Parish (PJ’s producer) and Brian Ritchie (founding Violent Femmes’ bassist, MONA FOMA curator) will play Femmes’ songs at PW1. It starts at 10pm and is included in the festival pass. Nice!
Wednesday 11 January, 3pm. Ben Ryan just alerted us to this fund raising auction at Inflight! Here’s the deal, next Wednesday loads of local artists will be auctioning off their works to support the ARI. It’s a great cause. Inflight supports heaps of experimental artists in Hobart; read more about what they do here and start saving so that you can bid. Where: Inflight, 100 Golburn St, Hobart. When: Wednesday January 18, from 5.30pm. Auction 7.30pm. Event details here.

Tuesday 10 January, 9am. Good morning. There are two important things that we would like to tell you today.
1. MONA FOMA has a free program iPhone app and Android app (also free). If you are going to the festival and you have an iPhone, or opposable thumbs, you should get one of these.
2. The Thousands have a free Hobart City Guide iPhone app! This also includes guides to other cities, such as Melbourne, and Perth. Anyways if you have an iPhone you know what to do. Thank you for reading.
Monday 9 January, 9am. Clever MOFOs will realise that we’ve just entered the MONA FOMA home straight. The festival opens this Friday with a mammoth street party and will maintain the momentum for the following 10 days. Things that we are looking forward to include: Gabriella Smart performing John Cage’s ‘Prepared Piano’ at midnight; the feathers, tutus and hot bods in ‘Aviary’ by Ballet Lab; Hare Krishna rock (yes we are actually looking forward to this); Royji Ikeda’s ‘Datamatics‘, Girl Talk! (!!) The list goes on. To help you see this stuff the nice people at MONA have given us two festival passes to give away and two tickets to Ballet Lab. To enter, email hello@thethousands.com.au with your name, your address and the type of tickets that you would like to win.
