Hampstead Heath

Everybody knows that London living can get you down. Trudging along, head down, collar turned to the wind and rain, face set in a stoic expression somewhere between “this is good for me” and “I hate everything”, we go about our daily routines - to the Tube, to Pret, to work, back to Pret, back to work, to Tesco, to the bus and back home.

The silver lining to this seldom-absent cloud, however, is that when the sun is out and the sky is blue, everyone gets happy. Not just your average garden-variety happy, but take-your-shirt-off-in-the-park happy. And when that happens, there’s no better place to be than Hampstead Heath. Have a swim in the ponds, frolic in the grass, or chase your friends through the hectares of woodland; this is where London goes free-range. It’s nice, too, that its sheer size means you’ll be able to enjoy your own little piece of outdoors without being asphyxiated by a cloud of disposable barbecue smoke.
