Long Play
published on 20th July, 2010

In my twilight years, presuming we survive the great flood of 2012, I plan to spend the bulk of my days at a little bar with my friends. We’ll sit around drinking black coffee and red wine, eating olives and playing Angry Birds on our iphones, hanging shit on young people.

If I’m lucky, that place will look and feel exactly like Long Play. Inner North-East hospo illuminati Tim Richmond and Adam Sine have completely re-imagined the space of the once great Glitch Bar, resulting in a smart but inviting venue which already feels like a local fixture. All polished wood, Italian tiles and Venetian blinds, the place reeks of understated Mediterranean charm. As well as an affordable list of lesser-known Spanish, French, Italian and Aussie wines, a few special beers and some damn fine coffee, delicious small dishes of Mediterranean fare are on offer from the salamander grill.

The soundtrack is provided, fittingly, from a collection of old records sitting behind the bar. The tiny movie theatre out the back plays the occasional classic film, but you’ll find me and my cronies sitting in a booth, eating olives, hanging shit on young people. It’s best to start honing these habits early.
