Trippy Taco (new location)
published on 11th October, 2011

Helen Razer isn’t particularly funny but gets points for comparing most Mexican in Australia to “cat food with melted cheese”. Granted, her quip was made before Melbourne fell in love with all things tortilla and salsa. Simon Fischer and Trippy Taco are the originators of quality Mexican in this city. Located around the corner from The Thousands HQ, Trippy has long been a favourite around here and we vouch for the deliciousness of their vegetarian burritos, taquitos and enchiladas – all served without the slightest hint of Chilli Con Whiskas.

While you may have to wait a little longer than for a roll at N Lee, once the Tofu Asada Burrito arrives people have been known to do those fast little excitement claps in front of their chests. The one gripe about Trippy Taco has been the seating, or lack thereof. But the new Gertrude Street location (right near Northside Records, Birdman Eating and Dr Follicles) has a bigger kitchen and thirty (!) seats, meaning more hot sauce for more hombres. Simon assures us that despite a few additions the menu remains unchanged. And a full license is coming soon so we can look forward to a range of “exotic” Mexican beers, and micheladas with our breakfast burritos!
