Book distribution is a funny business. To the naked public eye, it’s no more visible than Phil Spector before he murdered that prostitute, but boy is it important! Books@manic is a nationwide operation that takes beautifully produced books about architecture, art, cinema, photography, graphics, landscape and design from Europe, Asia and the US and plonks them in the likes of Metropolis, The Brunswick Street Bookstore and The Paperback (aka dream bookshops).
Modern Journal, their Melbourne-based counterpart, concern themselves with the best in contemporary art publications as well as distributing books and magazines on architecture and design (see: Dumbo feather, Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces and Serps Press) to retailers throughout Australia and New Zealand.
This weekend Modern Journal and books@manic join forces in the sale to end all sales. In the words of books@manic’s publisher, Lars Muller, ‘books are more than books. They are objects and need to be present in reality. You have to smell them, touch them and feel their weight in your hand. So go to a bookseller near you and do just that (AND BUY THEM FOR 50% OFF!), it’s worth it.’ You heard Lars.
