TOPS

Realising Sugar Mountain was the best event I have ever been to in my life, any time, ever.

World’s End Press KILLING IT! Particularly bassist Sashi Dharann’s dancing.

John Maus pinching his nipples and hitting his head. It was very cathartic but also just like how I imagine witnessing a mental breakdown would be?

Jumping around for two hours to DJ Yamantaka Eye (The Boredoms) on the mezzanine.

Sun Araw‘s saxophonist. So calm and focused and beautiful.

Prince Rama inviting everyone on stage to dance. Taraka Larson is totally hot.

Sitting underneath/inside Matsuri Yamana’s cloud installation.

Melbourne’s lesbian population, in its entirety, in the girls’ toilets all AT THE SAME TIME.

Standing next to Vincent Moon.

tUnE-yArDs‘ energy. So much energy!

ALL of the psychedelic visual projections. Lucy Benson! I could have stared at those for seven hours.

Deerhoof’s drummer. Particularly during Panda Panda Panda.

Not taking acid.

BOTTOMS

Not taking acid.

Having trouble understanding the lead singer from Pets with Pets.

People were quite smelly by the end.

Prince Rama having to ask people to get off the stage due to safety reasons. Then watching the fat guy who was at the back dancing sexy stop dancing sexy and leave.

Magda Szubanski being refused entry?

Sore knees.

John Maus not playing ‘Hey Moon‘.

Losing the key for my bike lock when jumping around to DJ Yamantaka Eye.

No chardonnay.

Sugar Mountain’s satellite arts program continues this week with Keith Deverell’s Grace Note screening nightly at Polyester Flinders Lane, Chaco Kato’s installation at Chapter House Lane, Vincent Moon’s An Island Q&A and screening at Rooftop Cinema, Dylan Martorell’s Nachthexan opening at Fed Square, Maya Hayuk and Kyle Ranson’s Yes! exhibition opening and drawing workshop at No Vacancy. Also here’s an interview we did with Maya Hayuk at her Brookyln studio.
