The Thousands

Rain is a solo exhibition of Ash Kilmartin’s wood, leather and textile-formed sculptures. The title and inspiration behind the work refers to Kilmartin’s interest in the actual and false cycles that are informed by or imposed upon creativity and labour – the four seasons, seasons of fashion, theatre seasons. There’ll be a little bit of theatre in there, a little bit of similarly titled 80s australian pop music, and a whole lot of form/function and necessity/luxury tension. The exhibition is outside, exposing the works to the change of season implicit in the name. But hopefully it doesn’t do its name on the day. – REJ
