There are two famous Bell Streets in Melbourne: The Thornbury one where my mother worked in the late 90s counselling the long term unemployed (the same place where I saw one of her clients smash a car window open and drive away topless) and the less deviant equivalent in Fitzroy. In an effort distinguish them geographically and not confuse prospective patrons of the inaugural Bell St Bazaar we’ll refer to the Thornbury stakeholder of the name as Hell Street. So don’t trust the GPS when it directs you to Hell Street this Sunday. Navigate your way toward Bell Street instead. It’s opening its pavement to the public and having a street-long garage sale/gathering promising clothing, cake, seedlings and furniture stalls.
