Ben Capp, ‘My Friends Are Pretty’ exhibition opening

In Death Of A Dogface, Salinger uniquely states, ‘You take a real ugly guy, with a two-toned voice, with a head that’s too big for their shoulders, with them goo-goo-googly eyes – well, that’s the kind of guy that can do things’. Ben Capp’s first exhibition since returning to Melbourne from London, ‘My Friends Are Pretty’, takes this sentiment and photographs it. This isn’t to say No Vacancy’s walls will be adorned by ugly-ass portraits, but the show exhibits a selection of images of the artist’s friends pulling funny faces, taking off their cool, and generally having fun. From a guy who claims he started balding at 15, was ‘ghostly pale, has freckles and ginger chest hair’, well, that’s the kinda guy that can do things. – JM
