Douglas E. Pope: 6×6 exhibition opening

2.39:1? Seriously, who can afford 70mm film stock in these trying economic times?
1.85:1? That’s strictly for Hollywood bigshots, not real people like me.
16:9? Listen, I’m sure those coked up whores of yours are impressed by that widescreen panel. Not me. No sir. Not me.
4:3? Buddy, you can stare at that television of yours all you want. I’m trying to live a life, not while it away in a stupour.
1:1? Now that’s an aspect ratio I can get behind. Every side equal. No trickery or anamorphic flim-flammery. It’s the aspect ratio of the people, not the bourgeoisie, and it’s also the ratio of Douglas E. Pope‘s beautifully sparse,  square photographic work, on show at the Black Cat from Tuesday. Assalamu Alaykum, Brother. – KD
