Landscape has played an important role in art since cavemen were knocking about. Back then, art was more about telling people where to kill things, but there were probably a few clever cavemen who documented the world around them with a mind to paint the human condition. They would have been killed by the other cavemen, because they were weak. Years on, Shaun Gladwell has a show called Stereo Sequences at ACMI, which deals with landscape a lot. This is the first in a series of ‘Mapping Terrain‘ panel discussions about the whole thing, featuring Monash Gallery of Art curator Sephen Zagala and artists Julie Gough, Ash Keating and Deborah Kelly. – MO
