Even though it’s taking place in Newcastle, you can still grab a bit of Melbourne-based zine action at the This Is Not Art festival when Sticky Institute turns up at the Sunday Fair. Rather than just grab a few titles off the shelf and stuff them in a suitcase, though, Sticky have approached a gang of the most super-skilled zinesmiths and commissioned a limited edition of 25 once-only never-to-be-reprinted yes-that’s-your-lot zines from each of them.
This therefore means Sticky’s stall will be laden with exclusives from some well-established and crazy-talented zine folk. There’ll be rare treats from comic stripper Ben Hutchings, lump-based illustrator Pat Grant, zine royalty Vanessa Berry, Debbie Harry lovers Gadgie, wildlife fanatics Gracia + Louise, the recently-resurrected Mavis McKenzie, miniature story and disposable cutlery showcase Plastic Knife, tram-based haiku writer ‘V’ and many, many more. There’ll also be a $100 zine if you’re feeling altruistic / flash / insane / all three.
