Put A Egg On It #4
published on 22nd February, 2012

Put A Egg On It, aside from being good yet gramatically incorrect advice for pretty much any meal imaginable, is a digest of food writing, illustrations and recipes out of Brooklyn. Much of the writing is personal, yet the writers’ indulgence in the self is matched by their indulgences in food. Instead of leaving a nasty taste of ‘I really don’t care for reading your jibes at ex-partners’, their words simply leave your mouth watering for Indian food safaris (OMG PANEER NOW, PLEASE), American delicacies like pickled bologna and mallo cups and homely experiments with lemons and figs.

If you’ve ever whiled away hours in cafes watching well-dressed folk come and go whilst scribbling notes and illustrations in your notebook, ‘Cafe Drawings’ will appeal to you. Stories of dinner parties, eating habits, picnics and food histories sit alongside handy kitchen tips and recipes from respectable food blogs including 101 Cookbooks.

Photo essays complete the compendium, with a truly vomit-inducing piece from ‘The Explorers Club Gala’ in New York. Even Bear Grylls would probably pass up ‘sweet and sour bovine penis’ and ‘earthworm canapes’, out of context. Luckily the paper stock is already a nice shade of green…
