Zine review, ‘A Night Out In Frosnall Graaf’
published on 8th December, 2011

As was established in this comic series’ first edition, An Introduction to Frosnall Graaf, the fantastical world of Frosnall Graaf itself looks like it’s somehow been drawn onto rainclouds. As if its hollow-eyed residents (that, in many cases, look suspiciously like animals in clothes) are inhabiting the dark, nostalgic thought bubble of an unseen and slightly drowsy cartoon character.

As it turns out in A Night Out In Frosnall Graaf, it’s also the sort of place where, if you’d only just moved there, you’d easily meet people you could go to all-ages gigs with and kip on their sofa. But don’t be surprised if those people then turn out to be super heroines used to fighting giant evil worms. Not only that, it’s a location that has a tendency to dramatically turn from black and white to colour, like in The Wizard Of Oz.

This issue also has a guest strip from previous Inherent Vice participant Simon Hanselman, who re-imagines ‘Frosnall Graaf’ as not being an area at all, but rather the name of a sulky Viking that finds travelling on longboats uncomfortable. Quick tip: if a shapeshifter offers you the chance to travel to a remote island to bury a chest containing a mystical item coveted by sludgemonsters say you’re washing your helmet that day.
