Wet & Wendy Pop Up Shop
published on 16th August, 2011

The umbrellas I own tell a tale of disorganisation and whimsy. A golf-sized rainbow umbrella that looks like a Mac error message. A see-through plastic one that feels like squinting through a dirty windshield through fogged-up glasses. These are the umbrellas of a rain-shy person who swoops too hastily upon Hot Potatoes.

But this week there will be a new convenience umbrella shop on Swanston Street. Weatherwear designer Anna Martino of Wet & Wendy is raising the stakes by co-opting a newspaper stand to provide people with her practical, chic and solidly constructed umbrellas in an opportune all-weather location.

The rain gadgets are available in khaki and orange, silver-grey and blue and faded navy and pink – in long-handled as well as compact folding designs. If it is raining, Anna will probably be modelling one of the coats from her AW11 collection ‘Love The Rain‘ – further proof that I need not appear to be a bedraggled carnie every time the skies open.
