Button up, smoky, this is going to be wild!
The Victorian Button Collectors Club is presenting Buttonfest this Saturday. Buttons! Buttons everywhere! Tortoise shell, enamel and mother of pearl, waiting to attach themselves to you for life. You don’t even have to buy them dinner first. “Pfft they’re just buttons,” you’re thinking, “bitch needs to relax.” Excuse me. Buttons are reliable (unlike zips). You might not even exist if your mother hadn’t seduced your father in a button-up shirt.
At Buttonfest you’ll have an opportunity to buy rare and collectible buttons, make vintage button necklaces and see button paraphernalia from the 19th century. You might even meet the founding member of the Victorian Button Collector’s Club, owner of Buttonmania in the Nicholas Building and saviour of some of Victoria’s rarest button-making equipment, Kate Boulton. I wonder if she ever thinks about changing that spelling.
