Tuesday 22 May, 9pm. Mark W Free sees a white coffee and he wants to paint it black. No lattes any more he wants them to turn black. His Black Coffee @ No Fixed Address pop-up has been popping up more than a whack-a-mole. Even our garage sale. Opening minds and mouths to great black coffee prepared with care. Now his brand-new website has an even brand-newer webstore. At the moment it’s just the (seriously) life changing Aerobie Aeropress, filters for same and Black Coffee branded Hookturn cups for sale. But soon there will be delicious specialty coffee, available as a one-off purchase or by subscription. Then: the world. Free shipping for the first month.

Whatever you do - from visual art to publishing, film to fashion, design to digital media – if you’re good, you could win. Watch the video here and then head here to enter. Good luck!

Wednesday 2 May, 9.12pm. Get this: Triple R launched their new Radio on Demand service today, so you can listen back to any Triple R show any time you want and even link to various points within a show. It comes in desktop, smart phone and tablet versions for iPhone/iPad and android. And here it is for people reading this on mobile.
May we humbly suggest that you use it to listen to Teenage Hate? It’s our music editor Tim Scott’s new Australian punk show, which he co-presents with Samson McDougall at midnight on Wednesdays. But who cares when they present it you can listen to that shit on the tram tomorrow! As the great man Jay Reatard once said, “It’s right then and there and I think that’s how it should be.” (He really did once say that, on MTV.)

Tonight feels like it’s going to be a soup kind of night. How about The Orbweavers and Laura Jean‘s homemade soup at a secret location in Brunswick? Email fraserislandmondays@hotmail.com to RSVP. It’s nearly booked out. Note: Doors 7pm and Jae from The Panics is playing a solo set to open. Nice!
Sunday 29 April, 4pm. Zine-journal Death Of A Scenester and The Rag and Bone Man Press have drawn a Venn diagram where classic literature and jelly wrestling overlap, and they want you to be writhing around in the centre of it. The Great Jane Austen Jelly Wrestle will be held at the launch of DOAS issue #5 on May 12, so participants willing to fight for the title of ‘World’s Most Powerful Author’ (in costumes provided) are needed. Want to be up to your knees in aspic and torn bonnets? Email deathofascenester@gmail.com before May.
Friday 20 April, 10am. The only thing better than going to a garage sale is conducting a garage sale. Because you make money, not slough it off on records you’ll never listen to. Knowing this, don’t you think you should register for the national Garage Sale Trail? One hot day in May (Saturday 5 May to be exact) when thousands (literally, thousands) of makers, creators and people who just plain want to offload some shit unite in a celebration of community, sustainability and micro-enteprise. Well, micro-enterpriser, you only have (as of this moment) 14 days left to register your sale. We like the whole thing so much we are a media partner and, sorry to bury the lede, are GOING TO HAVE OUR VERY OWN GARAGE SALE on May 5. Details forthcoming.

Tuesday April 10, 3.20pm. Every year the students at the RMIT University School of Architecture buy a cable knit from Swensk. They also compile and edit a landscape architecture journal called Kerb. Right now submissions are open! They’ll accept “experimental and innovative design projects, research, written and photographic works, collages, digital animations or film”. But only if these things have to do with “contemporary landscape architecture issues” that “can influence the discourse of design”. Read more information on their website then send your A-game to kerb@ems.rmit.edu.au.

Wednesday 28 March, 4.38pm. A megathrust earthquake hit Japan a little over a year ago. I knew that! Well of course you did. It’s all we talked about at the time. Now we don’t talk about it so much, but that doesn’t mean the Japanese people are out of the thick of it. Things are still being cleared, rebuilt and relocated. Remember Japan is a set of well-designed t-shirts, posters and soon tote bags that want us to remember March 2011. All proceeds go to CRASH Japan and all items (where possible) are made via locally sourced workmanship and environmentally friendly materials. Everything is available online from here.

Friday 23 March, 5.30pm. Susie Lau aka Susie Bubble aka Style Bubble is coming to Australia. Thanks to Portable, you can see her in Melbourne on Friday 4 May at ACMI where she will discuss where she bought this necklace. Hopefully there will also be time to hear her thoughts on “the current fashion landscape in 2012, identifying how fashion designers and retail brands can position themselves globally by working with online publishers, bloggers and social media channels to create real connections with audiences.” After her presentation, Susie will take questions from the audience and attend a networking drinks event. Tickets are now on sale here.
