Il Pirata
published on 27th October, 2011

We’re not exactly sure what the motivation was for decking out a tiny suburban Doubleview pizza restaurant in more pirate paraphernalia than you could poke a cutlass at. Perhaps it was the advent of pirate-themed movie franchises that persuaded the owners to decorate their eatery with a level of swashbuckling kitsch that would make Captain Pugwash proud?

Postulating aside, we’re not complaining – the ‘Captain Jack Sparrow’ and the ‘Black Beard’ pizzas made for a hearty feast amongst old seadogs. It also didn’t hurt that the chef at this quaint suburban pizzeria was fresh off the boat (from Italy) and could give Mr Depp a run for his money in the looks department.

And whilst ordinarily we would have abandoned this ship on learning the fickleness of availability of menu items, we were totally charmed by resident wench Bev as she kept the flagons of house red a-comin.

Yaaarrrr. We’ll be back.
