We’ve always admired Les Hiddins, and not just for his almost invisible shorts. As the Bush Tucker Man, he showed us how to find a feed in any situation. While few of us are true bushies, all of us like free food. Urban Tucker tells you where to get it via plots on a Google map that identify publicly accessible food bearing plants. The map currently shows metropolitan locations for olives, figs, mulberries, rosemary, and lemon and users are encouraged to contribute and share the love.
Some eschew such strategy and planning and opt for more radical guerrilla picking, but when you need a particular ingredient (say your roast potatoes are crying out for rosemary), the map is pretty handy. As various fruits come into season, raid the Thousands archives – we’ve got some pretty good ideas for your mulberries and figs. If you binge on those, you could use your lemons for a fancy diet. After a week on that, you too can rock Les’ shorts.
