We could get angry and sad at Yok – one of Perth’s original and most widely recognised street artists – for leaving us a few years ago and taking off for Melbourne, and now working in Bangkok, and other far exotic places. But we won’t. Why? Because Yok’s kindly left little pieces of himself everywhere.
Over the years, he’s freely bequeathed his art to Perth’s walls, bus stops and street signs. Those amazing King Brown publications? That’s Yok, too, he started ‘em. In fact, Yok is embedded so deep within this city that it’s like he never left us at all.
Pachinko is a best of the best; a retrospective exhibition featuring classic black-ink character illustrations and more recent ink blot paintings from one artist that will never truly leave. Aww.
