My childhood weekends with my bargain-hunting mother consisted of being razzled out of bed at hideous-o-clock in the morning and thrust in to a beat-up ’85 Tarago to accompany Mum to swap meets. Mum could always be found circling the car boots of local artists peddling their hand-made wares. Now, with the advent of the internet, many swap meet types have headed online to virtual marketplaces places like Moose.
Moose sells the wares of 150 artist and designers in the categories of Space, Textiles, Paper & Fine Jewelery and Exhibit. There’s national craftsmen and craftsladies Polli (NSW), Lola & Bailey (VIC) and Kelly Smith (TAS), as well items from as locals like the talented penman Sean Morris, wooden jewelry from WhiteSquare, silversmith Helena Bogucki and totes from Penny Parker. Unfortunately for my Mum, she still doesn’t know how to use the internet, and can still be found wandering shopping centre car parks come 7am Saturday. I, however, stay firmly in bed.
