Seeing people racing in giant vessels made out of taped-together milk cartons isn’t something you forget in a hurry. While the The Masters Flavoured Milk Carton Regatta remains firmly entrenched in many a local’s memory bank, Sydney creative duo DesignByThem couldn’t possibly have heard of our zany Regatta. So it’s a coincidence then, that one of the signature products they create (the ‘Butter Bench/Stool’) is made out of recycled plastic milk containers. DBT’s creations don’t sacrifice good taste but are always ecologically sound: par example are their speccy-looking plastic GeoLights, colourful rust-resistant letterboxes, and beautiful maple stem-tree coat racks.

Nick is flying over from Sydney to speak at the first of Venn’s ‘Design Series’ events – there’s a Q & A, discussion, drinks, food, special Shop offers, Aesop goodie bags and a grand door prize (rest assured it’s not a year’s worth of spearmint milk!). For those actually studying product design, ‘Design Series’ is a chance to get invaluable, professional advice; for the rest of us it’s a nice, laid-back regatta of creative inspiration.
